The Time is now to be our greatest lover and mother to ourselves
We are presently in the portal of Beltane, the next turn in the Wheel of the Year. Commonly celebrated on May 1st (with astrological Beltane on May 5th), it is the cross-quarter festival for fertility, sensuality and sacred union between the Divine Feminine and Masculine. It's a time for further blooming and creation, just as we see Mother Earth brightening the landscape with HER floral arrangements, greening of grass and sunnier days.
Traditionally considered the first day of summer, Beltane is full of joy and energy. It falls during Taurus season which brings the essence of rooting into the sacred soil, tending to home and finances, expressing your inner Aphrodite or Lover Archetype and creating a deeper practice of self-love.
I had the great blessing of spending my solar return and holy week during Easter in the South of Spain, in the mountains of Andalusia. It was during my stay in the beautifully white washed town of Competa, over looking the sea, I came into a deeper relationship with the Divine Feminine, particularly the expression of the Great Mother.
SHE was everywhere. In the sloping of the hills, the smiles of the locals, the care of the hotel staff for my comfort. SHE protected me as I traversed narrow mountain roads, baptised me with her cleansing waters on my birthday as I roamed through a botanical garden and greeted me with a golden sunset to mark the transition into my “new year”.
SHE held me in her peace as I hiked through the hills and reminded me of her ever present LOVE as I was embraced by strangers who became friends. I returned with the recognition that the way I was treating my body and mind had to shift. I entered a portal of peace while there and took home the understanding that protecting this peace would be paramount - that the answers all stem from keeping my nervous system regulated and in routine. I must now be my greatest lover and mother for my own wellbeing.
Beltane invites into that space of tending to the body as lover - lover of self, lover of the Divine Feminine.
How will you “love” yourself now and in the months ahead?
How will you tend to your body as a sacred vessel of creation and holy expression?
How can you balance your desire for your activation (Masculine) and your deep need for rest and regeneration (Feminine)?
I invite you in the energy of Beltane to spend time caring for your physical self with deep reverence, nurturing and nourishing.
To take time for receiving, the rest and the respite AND the doing.
Dance. Create. Garden. Relax. Rejoice. Adorn. Decorate. Soothe.
Whatever act of self-love/care and tending you provide to yourself, may it feel like a warm embrace, the softness of silk and the gentle touch of the most unconditional love.
Happy Beltane to you!
